Use this software to check a connection to MySQL, whether certain extensions are available, and/or to check if PHP can create fields and directories. It can also be used to find the PHP version, configuration information, and supporting software.
Check the box of the tests you want to run.
Check whether or not these extensions are available:
A MySQL connection can be checked. Optionally, also a database connection.
The checks test that the information provided below is valid. To do a test, MySQL has to already be set up and, to test a database connection, the database must already exist.
For information about creating a database and users,
If you do not know how to create a database with MySQL, your hosting company should have tutorials available.
Different hosting companies do things differently.
Should your hosting company happen to provide you with cPanel, here is a quick "how-to" (if your hosting company has instructions, use those instead):
To get started, click on the "MySQL Databases" icon.
a. Create a database.
(You can use an already existing database, if you wish. In that case, skip to the next step.)
In the "Databases" section, type a name for a new database. Then click on AddDb.
Click on [go back].
b. Create a user.
(You can use an already existing user, if you wish. In that case, skip to the next step.)
In the "Users" section, type a username and password. Then click on Add User.
c. Add user to database.
(If the user is already added to the database, then this step doesn't need to be done.)
In the "Databases" section, select a user and a database. Then click on Add User to Db
Note that cPanel may prepend your hosting account username and an underscore character to the names of the database and user you create. This would depend on how your hosting company has things set up.
("localhost" may be correct. Check with your hosting company.)
(For security reasons, it is suggested the password be provided here only if this software is installed on a secure (SSL) server and accessed with an https://... URL. If no SSL connection, the real password can be temporarily hard coded at the first line of this software's source code, replacing "mypassword" with the real password between the quotes.)
Name of database to test.
(Optional. Use only if testing a database connection.)
The following will be attempted, with comments:
Write a temporary file in directory /willtest (where this software is installed).
If successful, delete the temporary file.
Create a temporary subdirectory in /willtest/
Create a temporary file in the temporary subdirectory.
Remove the temporary subdirectory.
If the PHP configuration allows it, checking the box will
provide information about your PHP installation.
